Even with the strictest of safety precautions, injuries can still occur, especially to those children participating in sports such as football, soccer, field hockey and cross country.

More than 30 million children take part in sports every year. But this comes with a price on their young bodies. Approximately 3.5 million children under age 14 receive medical care for sports injuries annually, according to the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM). Stats further point to overuse injuries being responsible for nearly half of the sports injuries to middle and high school students.

Overuse injuries, like strains and sprains, tend to occur at the beginning of the season when kids are most likely out of shape. However, proper conditioning and technique, cross training and limiting the amount of practice hours has been shown to prevent these type of injuries.
